Updates From The Farm

Fall is a wonderful time to plant fruit trees, and we’ve got our best selection in years at the nursery! Our highly anticipated “buy 2 get a 3rd free” fruit tree sale starts Thursday, Sept 12. Apples, pears, plums, cherries, peaches, and nut trees are all included. In person and over the phone sales only, figs not included.

While we have 80+ varieties (!!) available, here are three of our favorites:

Chojuro Asian Pear: Asian pears are known for their crisp texture, juicy flesh, and mild flavor. Chojuro takes the flavor to another level – with tasting notes of butterscotch and rum, incredibly sweet, and impossible to resist. Did we mention Asian pears are one of the easiest fruit trees to grow in our climate? Plant it with another Asian pear variety for a heavy fruit set. All of our pears are on a well-anchored dwarf / semi-dwarf rootstock that can be maintained under 10′ for easy picking.

Centennial edible crabapple: Should be called Centennial delicious crabapple! This small oblong apple has a perfect crisp texture and a full flavor. It ripens in late summer, well before most other apple varieties. The tree is disease resistant and has an attractive, compact form. An excellent choice for the home gardener or farmer looking for a niche product. We have trees available on semi-dwarf and adorably small mini-dwarf rootstocks – a good candidate for growing in a pot.
Shiro Japanese plum: This is a reliable, attractive fruit tree in our climate. Late winter blooms are a beacon of spring and are followed by pale-yellow, mild flavored and incredibly juicy, sweet plums in mid to late summer. Pair with another Japanese plum variety for best fruit set, such as the classic Methley, the over-the-top beautiful Hollywood, or the elusive but delicious Peach plum.
