The most widely distributed tree in North America. Fast growing when young, eventually to 40′. Attractive light-colored bark and leaves that tremble or quake in the breeze. Male and female flowers on seperate trees (dioecious). Fall color is usually dull yellow in the puget lowlands. Spreads through underground runners. Tolerates most soils, best in full sun or part shade.
