Deciduous tree, maturing at 40′ or more, with very ornamental peeling bark. The bark can be shades of tan, gray, and cinnamon. Roundish leaves have serrated edges. Tolerant of winter wet soils, will tolerate summer drought. Deer resistant, resistant to bronze birch borer.
